Leeds United won 4–1 at Elland Road and went out of the European Cup on away goals. A few days later they were back in, because of a substitute who had played for a few minutes.
Leeds beat Stuttgart 4–1 at Elland Road but went out of the European Cup on away goals. Then it emerged that Stuttgart had used a fourth foreign player, one more than the rules allowed. UEFA awarded Leeds the game 3–0, ordered a play-off in Barcelona, and Leeds won it.
